2015 16' Airstream Sport
This adorable 16' Airstream trailer was the first trailer we ever had. We were learning about hitches and towing and so many things that we decided it would be best to get a trailer that was close to done. After looking at a lot of used small trailers, we ended up buying this one, which was used, but last year's model, so we got a good deal on it.
The Sport series is known for its low weight, which makes it one of the easiest Airstreams to tow.
We liked the floorpan, but the inside was definitely lacking. We called it Tansplosion. Most everything was beige, or tan, but then there were these beautiful aluminum panels and a few bits of white and grey, and well, I couldn't help myself. So I tore in to a brand new airstream. A lot of plastic came out. A lot of wood, paint, and upgraded finishes went in. Clever storage was added. We added some electronics. She's now in a much better place:

The theme on the inside of this trailer is real walnut wood, to which we added high-end finishes and improvements to the design that give it a classy, mid-century feel. This trailer sleeps two adults on a dedicated 48" bed and the dinette re-arranges to a 40" bed which comfortably sleeps one adult or several dogs or kids.
A 100W solar panel on the roof feeds two deep cycle batteries for lights, water pump, furnace, refrigerator, water heater, thermostat, and charging computers and other electronics. A 600W pure sine-wave inverter has been installed for 110V power (needed for charging computers and other non-usb powered electronics) wile off the grid. Two 20-pound propane tanks provide fuel for the cooktop, furnace, refrigerator and water heater. It also has a 23 gallon fresh water tank and a 21 gallon waste water tank.

In the kitchen area, a new low-profile LED light illuminates the work space and an elegant goose-neck faucet makes the tidy kitchen area easy to use and clean. The trailer comes with a two-way (can run on either electricity or propane) three cubic foot refrigerator and a recessed two burner propane cooktop. A microwave is above the cooktop, which is a luxury when electrical service is available, and doubles as extra storage when relying on solar power.

The details that have been added to this trailer make all the difference. Magnets have been sewn in to the curtains to provide silent closing mechanisms. Noisy fans in the appliances have been replaced with SileneX silent fans. High-quality LED goose-neck reading lights are added throughout the trailer, as have wall-mounted porcelain vases for flowers. A hand-made quartz clock was crafted to match the wood in the sliding cabinet doors.
I didn't take many photos of the process, but here are some before and afters:
